Paul O’Neill: The newest great truthteller of our time

Matt Zemek: ‘Paul O’Neill proves yet again that God speaks to us—and through prophets—in very unexpected ways and in unlikely forms.’  [→ READ ]

Mr. O’Neill has just become one of the great new prophets of our time, a classic Jonah-like figure.

You remember Jonah from the Bible, don’t you? Long story short—and this is a somewhat simplistic comparison, but a worthwhile and appropriate one—Jonah was a reluctant prophet: not someone who set out on a crusade to right wrongs, but someone who was carried to a place and position where he eventually did stand his ground and tell the masses what they needed to hear. …

He came to a point, an intersection between reality and necessity, and found it impossible to not tell a set of uncomfortable truths. O’Neill could have maintained an easy silence, and no one would have or could have readily found fault with him; heck, no one might have even noticed him or made mention of him ever again.

But O’Neill felt he had to speak. Something inside him made him want to tell his story.

I like Matt’s writing.
