Please do whatever is necessary to reign in [the president]. Do not grant him free will to attack Iraq or any other country without Congressional approval.
Congress is our guarantee against the lunatic actions of any one person. I want you to vote for what you believe right, not for what any particular president tells you. And I want uncoerced agreement among many of you before we employ military force anywhere.
I believe that attacking Iraq is not necessary but is Bush's personal
vendetta. I believe our recent behavior as a nation demonstrates we have become a global bully, one unwilling to adhere to laws, treaties, and codes of conduct we impose on others. <snip>
Be courageous; intervene. Remember why you went to Washington in the first place.
