Tread lightly on the things of earth

Mike’s weblog about computing, politics, and faith (a progressive view)

Experiment: Summer re-runs? Unseen footage? Recyclable blogging? Lacking any sounder thoughts to not-rant about, I try an experiment: publishing recent info-laden emails I’ve written in hopes they’ll help direct future Googlers to the same cool stuff I’ve been discovering and discussing, until now, just among my circle of friends.

First up: Noodler’s fountain pen ink, smooth flowing, non-feathering, richly opaque, waterproof, sunproof, and, according to Noodler’s security challenge, forgery-proof.

The following entry is an experiment in recyclable blogging.

I haven’t blogged much lately, not because I’m not reading widely or responding to others, but because there’s only so many times I can write a weblog entry that says, in effect, “What kind of ____ still has a W sticker on their car?” It’s past mind-boggling to me that anyone of good will still could. I’ve got no patience or understanding left, I realize, at least for now, so I’m regrouping to try something at least possibly fruitful …

I’m interested in almost everything and can decide on hardly anything, so I’m always Googling through a barrage of facts sifting for just that tidbit — concerning whatever topic I’m currently focused on — that hits the spot just right and makes me go “Ah!”

And I’m constantly conversing with others about these topics via email, embedding links that might turn up useful to future searchers if made available for indexing by search engines.

My experiment, then: Gradually publish some of my outgoing email messages as blog entries, anonymizing embedded recipients but keeping embedded links. I may decide later this is one of my, ahem, less brilliant ideas … but for now, seems like at least mellow good fun.

Hi, Theophilus —

You ooh’d and aah’d just a little when I mentioned the joy of writing with richly opaque black ink. In case it’s a temperamental thing, here’s some linkage to Noodler’s, the inky elixir under discussion, including some really cool photos showing its indestructibility.

Mike

P.S. The photos also show that Pilot G2 ink fares very, very well in the durability department, too. Unbeatable for an off-the-shelf-for-a-buck commodity ink cartridge.

Hi, ____ —

As I was writing you a check for my part of ____’s gift using my Waterman Phileas fountain pen full of Noodler’s black ink, I thought you might be interested in the ink, at least in passing, given your lifelong business interest in bank checks and forgery prevention.

Writing with fountain pens revisits a joy of my youth, but this time is even better because of the availability of [Nathan Tardif’s] Noodler’s ink: Noodler’s is smooth flowing, non-feathering, richly opaque, waterproof, sunproof, and, according to Noodler’s security challenge, forgery-proof:

Noodler’s Black ink is waterproof and fraud proof and cannot be altered on a check or envelope by rain or bleach/ammonia. It consists of over 97% water content, rinse or simply rub off lucite/celluloid/acrylic/ebonite pens. If dried in the bottle it can be reconstituted with tap water, but once on cellulose paper it will stay on as a bulldog biting the leg of the enemy despite rain/soaking and the soaps of a check forger.

I first learned about Noodler’s from Mike Shea, a pen enthusiast:

I had a great buying experience getting my Noodler’s ink from Pendemonium in Fort Madison, IA:

and they provide more info on Noodler’s here:

P.S. I also bought a Namiki/Pilot Vanishing Point retractable fountain pen. Are these cool or what? <g> —
