Tread lightly on the things of earth

Mike’s weblog about computing, politics, and faith (a progressive view)

Markos’ first post at Daily Kos is dated May 26, 2002. What was I blogging about on that date?

Bill in Portland Maine reminds me that yesterday was the 3rd anniversary of Markos’ first post at Daily Kos.

So Daily Kos, now one of my favorite locii for news and discussion, from which I launch outward to cross-check and research further, started on May 26, 2002.

This set me wondering …
How far had I gotten in my blogging efforts on that date?

From my own personal time machine, here’s the single entry I made on May 25, 2002:

So when after that did I discover dKos and the sanity-restoring community therein? Let’s see … here’s my first dKos-citing entry:

I was beside myself with disbelief and near-rage at the ineptitude on display during that State of the Union (SOTU) address — this was the infamous-for-its-deceptions “16 words” speech — and I had gone searching for kindred spirits who were addressing the deceptions instead of saying, “Oh, what a man of God he is.

(I recall I had originally titled the entry “SOTU by the POTUS so much flatus” but then chickened out.)

I’m sure I would have gone even crazier than I am without the let’s-aim-for-truth- whatever-the-cost therapeutic input from dKos and other progressive online communities in the years since then.

Thanks, Markos, and every other Kossack past and present.

(Have you listened to Markos’ piano recordings yet? Any one of them is a thing of beauty that will make your day better.)
